AGBOR, DELTA STATE – June 8, 2026– Following the unfortunate derailment of a train at Agbor at approximately 4:30 PM this evening, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) Delta State Branch has swiftly deployed teams to execute critical search, rescue, and life-saving operations.

Branch Secretary of the NRCS- Delta State Branch, Charles Arinomor, confirmed that Red Cross volunteers immediately arrived at the scene to commence emergency efforts in close collaboration with railway staff, local community members, and other key stakeholders.

While active field operations have ceased for the night, the emergency response has already yielded critical progress:
 Evacuation of Passengers:
Stranded passengers are currently being systematically moved to Agbor town to facilitate onward transit to their various destinations.
 
Medical Treatment: Injured casualties were promptly evacuated via government ambulances and are currently receiving medical care at the Agbor Central Hospital.

 Comprehensive Interventions:
 The response activities successfully executed by the team today include stakeholder activation, search and rescue, immediate first-aid management, and the provision of Psychosocial Support (PSS) to affected individuals.

The emergency was handled by the combined efforts of the medical team on the ground in the presence of the Commissioner for Special Duties, the Commissioner of Police, the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and leadership of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Mr. Arinomor stated that while operations have paused due to nightfall, search and rescue activities are scheduled to resume at first light tomorrow morning to ensure no one is left behind.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society remains committed to working alongside state authorities and emergency services to provide comfort, medical aid, and relief to all affected passengers and their families.
