The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, Kanayo Uzuegbu, is dead.
KAKAKI OKEOGUN NEWS reports that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, announced the death of the senior police officer in Umuahia, the state capital, saying Uzuegbu died after battling cancer.
The governor disclosed the development at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, where a minute’s silence was observed in honour of the late police chief.
Governor Otti expressed deep sorrow over Uzuegbu’s passing, describing him as a diligent and hardworking officer who gave his best to the Nigeria Police Force and the country.
The governor said the late AIG served the nation with dedication, commitment and professionalism throughout his career.
He noted that Uzuegbu’s death was a painful loss not only to his family but also to the police institution and the people who worked closely with him.
Otti prayed for the peaceful repose of the late police officer’s soul.
He also asked God to comfort the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased, and grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
The governor said the passing of the senior police officer had created a moment of grief for the state and the security community.
Uzuegbu’s death has thrown personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in Zone 9 into mourning.
