TEAM OF NRC/ NSCDC FOILS ATTEMPTED RAILWAY TRACKS VANDALISM; RECOVERS 9 OXYGEN GAS CYLINDERS IN OSOGBO
The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has foiled an attempt to vandalise railway track materials at a siding serving Dangote Steel Rolling Mills in Osogbo, Osun State.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 28, at the railway siding, formerly known as Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills, which is currently not operational.
The NRC District Engineer for the Western District, Ibadan, Austin Ohenhen, said the Principal Track Officer in Osogbo, upon receiving the report, proceeded to the location with security personnel.
The suspected vandals reportedly fled upon sighting the security operatives. Nine oxygen gas cylinders allegedly brought to the site for the vandalism were recovered.
Reacting to the incident, NRC Managing Director Kayode Opeifa commended the security personnel for their response.
He directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and ensure that those behind the attempted vandalism are identified and prosecuted.
Opeifa also appealed to communities along railway corridors to report suspicious activities around railway tracks and other facilities.
He reaffirmed the Corporation's commitment to working with security agencies to protect railway infrastructure across the country.
