Yesterday, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu delivered a heartfelt message to the nation, reiterating his
commitment to bringing hope and prosperity to ordinary Nigerians. He promised to tackle the country's
astronomical inflation rate, making agricultural products and healthcare services more affordable and accessible.
One of the key takeaways from his speech was the emphasis on patriotism and love for our country. President Tinubu stressed that citizens' moral rectitude and faith in Nigeria are crucial to the success of his Renewed Hope Agenda. To this end, he announced plans to launch the National Identity Project in 2025, which will promote adherence to ethical principles, shared values, and beliefs.
I wholeheartedly support this initiative, as it has the potential to unite Nigerians and foster a sense of shared identity. However, I strongly believe that this project should be a top-down and bottom-up approach. Our leaders, from the President to local government officials, must demonstrate uncommon love for the citizenry by being diligent, compassionate, and transparent in their duties.
Government service should not be treated as a personal fiefdom, but rather as an opportunity to serve the people. Our leaders must prioritize citizen welfare and security, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution. The forthcoming National Youth Conference should be a litmus test for this administration's commitment to transparency and equity.
