BENUE POLICE CONDEMNS OTUKPO- NOBI ATTACK; DEPLOYS TACTICAL TEAMS TO RESTORE NORMALCY IN OTUKPO LGA

The Benue State Police Command has condemned the deadly attack on Otukpo-Nobi Community in Otukpo Local Government Area, describing the incident as cruel and tragic.

In response, the Command has deployed tactical teams and other security operatives to restore normalcy and intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 12th July, 2026, shortly after the successful conclusion of the wake and burial rites of the late Mr. Adaje Okoh, an octogenarian.

According to the statement, armed assailants stormed the community at about 6:00 a.m., opened fire indiscriminately, killing eight persons and leaving five others with varying degrees of injuries.

The attackers also set some thatched houses and a motorcycle ablaze.

The statement explained that upon receiving a distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, immediately led police tactical teams and other operatives to the community to restore law and order, prevent further attacks, and commence investigations into the incident.

The injured victims were taken to a medical facility in Otukpo for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, for preservation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, strongly condemned the heinous attack and assured residents of Otukpo and the entire Benue State that the Command remains fully committed to identifying, arresting and prosecuting all those responsible for the killings.

He also directed the deployment of additional tactical and operational assets to the affected community and other vulnerable areas to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

Security has also been reinforced around the area following protests by some aggrieved youths.

The Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and support security agencies with credible and timely information that will aid ongoing investigations.

Residents were also advised to continue their lawful activities, as adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property.

The Benue State Police Command extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Benue State, while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.
