FIRST LADY UPDATES ON RENEWED HOPE INITIATIVE GREEN NIGERIA CHALLENGES; CLOSES COMMUNITY CATEGORY

Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has renewed her call on state governments to prioritise investment in cleaner, greener communities by ensuring proper waste disposal and keeping drainage channels free of plastic waste and other obstructions to help prevent flooding.

The statement by the First Lady's office on the Renewed Hope Initiative Green Nigeria Challenge, announces the official closure of the community category of the competition, which is aimed at transforming degraded community spaces such as dumpsites, landfills and abandoned areas into green parks, gardens and other eco-friendly spaces.

The statement notes that no significant entries were received from states before the July 15 deadline for the community category.

Oluremi Tinubu commended the minister of the federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike, for remodelling the Abuja city gate, describing it as a notable landmark and a clear example of the kind of environmental transformation the community category was designed to promote.

The first lady encouraged households and states to participate in the household and state categories of the green Nigeria challenge, which remain open until December 20, 2026.

To participate in the competition, entries are to be submitted through the offices of the wives of state governors in the respective states, while interested participants can obtain further information on the competition criteria through the renewed hope initiative website.
