HOUSE BEGINS CONSIDERATION OF STATE POLICE BILL, PROBES ALLEGED ILLEGAL INVESTMENT COUNCIL
The House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review has begun clause-by-clause consideration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Executive Bill seeking to establish state police services across the federation.
National Assembly Correspondent Mitaire Ikpen reports that the committee is examining the provisions of the bill as part of ongoing efforts to review the 1999 Constitution.
Meanwhile, the House has commenced an investigation into the alleged establishment of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following concerns by lawmakers that the council was created without legal backing.
As part of the probe, the House has summoned the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) to explain the alleged use of government office space by the council.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in its submission to the lawmakers, disclosed that bank accounts linked to the alleged council have a zero balance.
