Ogunesan and Ghana must go Politics
Political stakeholders in Oyo North Senatorial District have expressed concern over what they described as the growing influence of "Ghana-Must-Go politics" ahead of the forthcoming political contests in the region.
The stakeholders, who spoke at separate gatherings across the district, warned that the practice of using money and material inducements to attract political support could undermine the democratic process and weaken public confidence in leadership selection.
According to them, politics should be driven by competence, integrity, experience, and the ability to deliver quality representation rather than financial inducements and temporary incentives.
The concerns emerged amid increasing political activities involving various aspirants seeking support across communities in Oyo North. Some party members argued that attempts to create political popularity through financial mobilization may not accurately reflect the true wishes of the electorate.
They maintained that the people of Oyo North are politically conscious and capable of distinguishing between genuine grassroots acceptance and support allegedly influenced by monetary benefits.
The stakeholders therefore called on party leaders and members to promote issue-based campaigns and ensure that candidates are evaluated based on their track records, vision, and commitment to the development of the district.
They further urged residents to remain vigilant and participate actively in the democratic process by supporting leaders who can provide effective representation and sustainable development for the people.
As political consultations continue across the district, observers believe that the debate over money politics and genuine popularity is likely to remain a major talking point in the build-up to future elections.
