Old Ifedapo Constituents Calls on National and State Leaders of APC To Consider Col. Gbenga Adegbola as Oyo North senatorial candidate
Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Old Ifedapo Federal Constituency have appealed to the party's national and Oyo State leadership to reconsider their political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that retired Colonel Gbenga Adegbola remains the most electable aspirant for the Oyo North Senatorial District.
At a stakeholders' meeting where five youths representatives selected from each of the 32 wards and joined by hundreds of elders and party faithfuls called on the leadership of the party to embrace what it described as a winning strategy by supporting a candidate with widespread grassroots acceptance, proven leadership qualities, and a strong record of community service.
According to the group, Col. Adegbola has consistently demonstrated commitment to the development of Oke-Ogun through humanitarian interventions, youth empowerment initiatives, and support for education and community development. They argued that these efforts have earned him considerable goodwill across the senatorial district.
The stakeholders maintained that the APC must avoid actions capable of creating internal divisions ahead of the elections. They urged the party to promote unity, transparency, and inclusiveness in its candidate selection process, stressing that the choice of candidate would significantly influence the party's chances of reclaiming and retaining political dominance in Oyo North.
The group further appealed to the APC National Working Committee, the Oyo State Executive, elders, and other critical stakeholders to carefully assess the political realities on the ground and support what they described as "the only candidate with the capacity to unite the party and secure victory for the APC in Oyo North in 2027."
The appeal comes amid increasing political consultations and calls by various APC stakeholders across Oyo State for transparent candidate selection processes ahead of the 2027 elections. Recent public statements by other APC groups in the state have similarly emphasized internal democracy and warned against the imposition of candidates.
