PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS IMAM TIJANI GBAJABIAMILA
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and community leader, Imam Tijani Olubodun Shehu Gbajabiamila, describing him as a respected religious leader whose life was dedicated to service, guidance and the promotion of peace.
The President says he had the privilege of knowing Imam Gbajabiamila from his early years and during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, benefiting from his wisdom, counsel and unwavering commitment to Islam and humanity.
He notes that the late Imam was a beacon of spiritual guidance who led worship, preached the teachings of the Holy Quran and encouraged education, personal development and moral values among Muslims.
President Tinubu says Imam Gbajabiamila also distinguished himself as a community leader, teacher, counsellor and mediator, working tirelessly to resolve disputes, promote social justice and support community development through various Islamic organisations.
He adds that one of the late cleric's greatest legacies was his commitment to promoting interfaith harmony, fostering mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among people of different religious backgrounds.
The President recalls that Imam Gbajabiamila served in several leadership positions, including Director of Islamic Affairs of the Zumuratul Islamiyyah Youth Association, Vice Chairman of the Council of Chief Imams and Alfas, Lagos Division, as well as trustee and adviser to several Islamic organisations.
President Tinubu says the late Imam's legacy as a unifying figure and respected religious leader will continue to inspire generations.
He Extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Imam, the Government and people of Lagos State, as well as his numerous students and admirers across the world.
