GREED AND SELFISHNESS: THE SILENT KILLER THAT CAN BURY OYO APC BEFORE 2027—By Akinleye Akinkunmi Segun Bishop
There is a dangerous disease eating deep into the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, and it is not the opposition. It is GREED and SELFISHNESS.
History has shown us that no political party is defeated only by outsiders. Parties die from within when a few leaders and members become too greedy to share, too selfish to listen, and too desperate to take everything for themselves.
This is the exact path Oyo APC is threading right now.
How Greed and Selfishness is Destroying Oyo APC
1. The Monopoly of Tickets:
When two or three people sit in a room and single-handedly allocate all 52 tickets - from governorship to House of Assembly - claiming they have presidential backing, that is not loyalty, that is greed. It tells the loyal party members who have laboured for years that they do not matter.
2. The Family-and-Friends Syndrome:
Greed makes a leader surround himself with only his family, his boys, and his business partners. He forgets the ward members, the women wing, the youth who stood under the sun to campaign. When people feel used and dumped, they will leave.
3. The Imposition of Unpopular Candidates:
Selfishness is when you impose a candidate that the people do not love, just because he is loyal to you. Politics is about numbers. If the candidate cannot win his own polling unit and cannot unite stakeholders, he will fail at the general election.
4. Killing Internal Democracy:
The strength of APC is progressive politics - equal opportunity, internal democracy, and justice. Once you kill internal democracy, you kill the spirit of the party. Money cannot replace acceptance.
What Will Happen If Care Is Not Taken?
If greed and selfishness are not checked urgently:
- Oyo APC will go into 2027 as a divided house. A divided house cannot win any election.
- Many genuine party members will work against the party or stay away on election day.
- The PDP/APM will win again, not because they are popular, but because we gave them victory on a platter of gold.
- The hard work of our national leaders will be rubbished at the state level.
ADVICE AND WARNINGS
To Our National Leaders and the NWC:
Please rescue Oyo APC now. Do not listen to only one side. Come to the grassroots. Hear the cry of the people. Review the candidate list and replace unpopular candidates with winnable, acceptable ones. Justice is the only road to unity.
To Those Holding the Party to Ransom:
Power is transient. Money finishes. Position expires. Only your good name will remain. You cannot eat alone and expect others to clap for you. Put the party first, not your personal interest. If the party loses, you lose too.
To All Party Members:
Let us not keep quiet in the face of injustice. Silence is approval. Let us demand fairness, equity, and unity. Let us support candidates who have never left the party, who invest in members, and who are loved by their people.
CONCLUSION
Oyo State is a progressive state. We cannot afford to be in opposition for another 8 years because of the selfish ambition of a few.
Greed says "I must have it all."
Selfishness says "Only my people matter."
But true leadership says "Let the party win, even if it is not my person."
If we do not kill greed and selfishness now, greed and selfishness will kill Oyo APC before 2027.
Oyo APC must be rescued now, before it is too late.
