SHETTIMA TO DECLARE 22ND EDITORS’ CONFERENCE OPEN IN ENUGU
Vice President Kashim Shettima to declare open the 22nd All Nigeria Editors Conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, on Thursday in Enugu.
The Guild in a statement signed by its President and General Secretary, Eze Anaba and Onuoha Ukeh, says the two-day conference has as its theme, “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive,” and the sub-theme, “When Lies Look Real: Detecting and Debunking AI Disinformation Before, During and After Election.”
The statement says the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah is expected to address the conference which is expected to attract more than 500 editors alongside government officials, academics, civil society representatives and other stakeholders.
It notes the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, will chair the conference, while former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, will deliver the keynote address.
The Guild says the conference will examine issues around democracy, elections, press freedom, artificial intelligence and disinformation, while seeking practical pathways for strengthening democratic governance and responsible journalism.
