NASARAWA SDP GAINS MOMENTUM AS FORMER DEPUTY IGP, OTHERS DEFECT TO PARTY
As political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue across the Country, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State has received new members, including a former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Ali Ari.
The statement by the SDP indicates that Doma, headquarters of Doma Local Government Area, was agog as party supporters, political associates and party's candidates gathered to welcome the defectors.
It notes that Muhammad Ali Ari, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had sought the party’s ticket to represent Nasarawa South Senatorial District before withdrawing from the race ahead of the primary election.
The defectors were received by a former Inspector-General of Police and the SDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Muhammad Adamu Abubakar.
The statement further appealed to the people of Doma and Nasarawa State to support the SDP, saying such support would enable the party to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy.
The SDP governorship candidate, Muhammad Adamu Abubakar, described the turnout as an indication of the party’s support in Doma, assuring the people that his administration would prioritise good governance and development if elected.
He clarified that the gathering was not the formal commencement of the party’s campaign, which he said would be flagged off soon.
The defection adds to the political realignments taking place in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
