NIGERIA INAUGURATES INTERMINISTERIAL COMMITTEE TO COORDINATE CLIMATE ACTION
Nigeria has launched its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) and inaugurated an Interministerial Steering Committee to coordinate climate action across sectors.
The initiative aims to drive the country’s emissions reduction target of 32 per cent by 2035 and net-zero emissions by 2060.
Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Tenioye Majekodunmi, highlighted the estimated 337 billion dollars required for climate mitigation and adaptation between 2026 and 2035, stressing the need for climate finance, policy certainty and stronger partnerships. The committee is expected to integrate climate priorities into national planning and budgets, strengthen accountability and address implementation challenges.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Minister of Livestock Development, European Union, British High Commission and development partners underscored the importance of intersectoral coordination and international cooperation. As Nigeria prepares for COP31, attention is focused on mobilising finance, technology and technical support to translate NDC 3.0 commitments into measurable climate action, resilient communities and green economic opportunities.
