Oyo 2027: A Call for Inclusive Democracy within the Oyo APC by Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK).
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has consistently distinguished itself from the broader political landscape through a foundational commitment to a solid democratic ideology rooted in inclusivity and mutual respect. This progressive heritage is what continues to mobilise millions of our members, who find a home in a party that values clean thought processes and collective participation. At the arrowhead of this inclusive model is our leader, the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose life’s work has been a masterclass in building consensus through dialogue and respecting a plurality of voices. We have studied his political trajectory enough to know that his principles are anchored on the belief that a house is only strong when every brick is intentionally placed, and it is this legacy of fair play that we must protect as we approach the 2027 elections.

It is, therefore, both alarming and worrying to observe a group of respected party leaders and chieftains seemingly towing a route that contradicts these very principles by unilaterally endorsing a "consensus candidate." While I hold these elders in high esteem, it is imperative to state that a genuine consensus, by its very definition and democratic nature, must emerge from an inclusive discussion and a broad agreement involving all stakeholders. To announce a candidate while bypassing the active participation of other contenders is a departure from the democratic norms that the APC represents. Such an approach does not just bypass process; it risks creating an avoidable fracture in a fold that should be prioritising harmony and unity ahead of the general polls.

As an aspirant who has successfully purchased the APC expression of interest and nomination forms at the Party Headquarters in Abuja, I view these preemptive endorsements as a slight to the sensibilities of every party faithful who has invested their time, intellect, and resources into the democratic process. It is unfair to the various categories of aspirants and their vast teams of followers to suggest that the race is concluded before the official whistle has been blown. Politics of the "backdoor" has no place in a party that prides itself on being the vanguard of progressive ideals. We must ensure that our actions do not punch holes in the very democratic dreams we invite the electorate to believe in, especially when our supporters are watching for signs of institutional integrity.

I wish to re-emphasise that I remain a loyal, full-fledged party man whose foray into politics is grounded on obedience to the party’s rules and its established leadership structure. I am ready and willing to channel the cause of our party in whatever inclusive direction the leadership eventually charts, provided such direction is rooted in transparent and consultative agreement. I remain firmly in the race, driven by my 20-point agenda for the "Realistic Tomorrow" of Oyo State, and I trust that the national and state leadership of the APC will uphold the standard of fairness that defines us. Anything less than a transparently inclusive process is not what the APC represents, and I remain confident that the voice of reason - and the voices of all party members - will ultimately prevail.

God bless us all. Thank you.

Aseyori ni Tiwa, aameen.
