Another chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mutali Adisa, has warned residents of Ikire who would not vote for the party’s candidate in Saturday’s governorship election not to attempt to cross the “gutter” in the town on election day.
Adisa, who is the Seriki of Ikire, made the statement while addressing supporters of the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Ikire , the hometown of the party’s flag bearer.
He made these statements on Tuesday.
In a video obtained by Sahara Reporters, Adisa expressed confidence that Oyebamiji would win the election, saying the APC candidate had already secured victory and only needed a strong percentage of votes in Ikire.
He said, “We are sure of victory given all the works we have done in the campaign. Ambo (referring to the APC Candidate) is sure of victory, what he needs is percentage in Ikire, he has won already.”
However, while addressing the party’s supporters, the APC chieftain issued a warning apparently targeted at residents who would not support the party’s candidate at the poll.
“We should however tell those who are not willing to vote for Ambo the truth, they should not even try to cross the gutter on election day in Ikire,” he said in the video seen by SaharaReporters.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over inflammatory rhetoric and alleged threats by political actors ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
On Wednesday, it was reported that human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, said he and his colleagues had petitioned the governments of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada to impose visa restrictions on Senator Francis Fadahunsi over his alleged role in engineering violence against members of the Accord Party ahead of the election.
Adeyanju made this known while speaking on Arise TV, where he condemned what he described as an unacceptable escalation in political rhetoric and alleged threats against Accord Party members ahead of the election.
According to him, the petition was being sent to the diplomatic missions of the three countries and was aimed at seeking sanctions against Fadahunsi over remarks which, according to Adeyanju, amounted to encouraging or facilitating political violence.
On Tuesday, it was also reported that the Osun State Police Command summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over a statement allegedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa, Osun State, in which he was heard threatening to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The police invitation came as political activities intensified ahead of the Osun State governorship election, amid growing concerns over inflammatory rhetoric and possible threats to opposition party members.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police directed Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 a.m.
The invitation was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State.
According to the police, Fadahunsi was expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the statement allegedly made during his address at the APC campaign programme in Ilesa on Tuesday.
The latest remark by Adisa has added to the concerns surrounding the conduct of political campaigns in Osun State, particularly allegations of threats and inflammatory statements ahead of the governorship poll.
